On the evening of February 6, 2025, a devastating fire destroyed The Learning Hub—an essential after-school and summer program serving the children and families of Northview Heights Estates, a Pittsburgh Housing Authority community. The Learning Hub was a place of hope, learning, and opportunity for countless children, providing tutoring, mentorship, and a safe space to grow. Now, that space is gone.
Thankfully, no one was in the building when the fire started, and no one was injured while controlling the fire. However, the children and families of the community are deeply saddened by this loss and are concerned about losing the much-needed programs that The Learning Hub has provided over the years. The United Methodist Church Union has been serving the Pittsburgh community for over 131 years, creating and sustaining vital programs like The Learning Hub. We are determined to rebuild and continue our mission of providing educational and social support for the children of Northview Heights.

UPDATED: August 13, 2025 - On February 6th, our hearts were heavy as we watched a devastating fire destroy our old farmhouse—a place of music, laughter, and belonging for so many children. But even in our grief, we knew it wasn't the end.
Thanks to the incredible support of our community, our children's programs have not stopped! The afterschool Learning Hub quickly moved to a temporary space at the police station, and we recently wrapped up our 5-week Summer Hub in a space a few blocks from The Bridge. Our kids had a blast with field trips, fun activities, and delicious meals!
Meanwhile, back at The Bridge, the work of rebuilding has begun. The site has been cleared, and we’ve hired an architect to create plans for a new facility that will be bigger, better, and stronger than ever before. While insurance will give us a great start, we will still need our supporters and friends to help us meet the growing needs of serving this community.
We've been here for over 60 years, and we're not going anywhere. Stay tuned for our new building plans!
