Bethany House Academy

The Bethany House Academy is an organization founded in 1962, based in the community of Northview Heights, and now with a new location in McKeesport. Our mission is to help meet the needs of high-risk families in the area to prepare them for academic, social, economic, and spiritual success in life.

With the help of Church Union, Bethany House Academy has been able to provide specific programs for a variety of ages that come to us. An After-school program serves children ages 3-18 of the Northview Heights community and gives them individual academic plans to aid in their success. The Oplenell Montgomery Preschool Learning Academy provides the core components of early childhood learning for ages 3-5. Bethany House also provides specific youth services including the P.O.W.E.R. Program that helps prevent teen violence and crime through self-motivation and confidence building. Along with the youth programs is also the Community Organic Garden and Café that teaches self-sufficiency and entrepreneurial skills to the young community.

For the 2014-15 program year, both the Bethany House Preschool and After-school program had 100% involvement. We were also selected by the Kids Marathon as a Kids of Steel agency, along with receiving a nutritionist for health and wellness training. The Bethany House Academy continues to create a positive impact on the community, understanding and attending to the needs of many families.

This innovative non-profit agency in Northview Heights is devoted to reducing the negative impact of poverty and inadequate education. The programs enables some 20 preschoolers per day to experience a healthy start in a challenged urban neighborhood. A summer program includes expanded day options and field trips for 50-60 youth. Every day computer training and tutoring is provided for children. Families benefit from crisis intervention and referrals to counseling and other critical services, including food, clothing and other needs. We are always looking for volunteers as tutors, project coordinators, kitchen helpers, and much more! Please contact us for more information if you are interested.
